Events Bartender
You will play a key role in creating memorable guest experiences at special events held throughout the museum, depot, and aboard historic train excursions. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and takes pride in delivering friendly, attentive service. Events include weddings, presentations, meetings, train excursion parties, and more.
This is a part-time, hourly position, and is intended as a event based job. Usually about 5-10 events/shifts per month, great for someone looking for extra income on the side of other employment. However, additional hours are available to work as a server onboard dinner trains, and/or working as a car attendant on the North Shore Scenic Railroad daily excursions.
The railroad is currently seeking team members with excellent customer service skills and attention to details to work as Events Bartenders. Paid positions start at $14.25/hour plus gratuities. General Description:
The position of Events Bartender consists of mixing and serving drinks to guests, either directly or through wait staff. Setting up bars in mobile locations is a regular requirement of the job. Event bartenders provide friendly, attentive, and timely service to create an exceptional experience for our guests. Events and schedules are generally inconsistent and based on special events or train excursions scheduled by management.
Specific roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Setting up bars inside the museum, throughout the Depot building, or onboard train excursions. This includes loading inventory onto carts or wagons and setting up bar stations, which are typically prepped in advance
- Greeting and assisting customers in a friendly and professional manner, while serving as a museum/railroad ambassador by sharing general railroad history and knowledge
- Checking identification of customers to verify age requirements for alcohol purchase and ensuring compliance with all alcohol laws and organizational policies
- Preparing and serving wine, mixed liquor, beer, soda, and water to guests completing transactions quickly and accurately
- Attending scheduled employee meetings and training sessions
- Monitoring guest alcohol consumption and helping to limit issues related to over-service, including refusing service when necessary and assisting guests in arranging safe transportation if needed
- Balancing cash drawers before and after each event; handling payments, processing credit cards, and making change as applicable
- Cleaning bars, work areas, and tables as needed. Most shifts include organizing, cleaning, and properly storing leftover items, and inventory counts. Duties include cleaning glassware, utensils, and bar equipment, including rinsing measured pourers and wiping down bottles at the end of each shift
- Maintaining records and control of bar stock and supplies
- Performing other reasonable duties as requested by management
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older in accordance with Minnesota alcohol service laws
- Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a standing position for up to 5 hours or more
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Must be willing to follow direction and ask for clarification when needed
- Must complete the required annual Alcohol Liability Education course (provided by management)
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of guests
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs; the job includes walking on uneven surfaces
- Must be able to climb ladders and safely board and disembark trains
- Must project a positive, energetic, and professional customer-service-oriented attitude
- Work may take place indoors and outdoors, including onboard moving trains. Hours are variable and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on scheduled events. Due to the historic nature of the equipment and facilities, some work areas may have limited accessibility.
In addition to the above responsibilities, all employees of the Organization are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. Every employee is equally important to the effective operation of the museum. Because of the unique nature of museum work, it may become necessary to assume additional responsibilities at times as directed by management.
