Jazz At the Depot: Sat’s 3-6pm
January 2 @ 3:00 pm - April 27 @ 6:00 pm
| $6.00The familiar strains of Duke Ellington’s Take the A Train, means it’s time for Jazz at the Depot
starting at 3:00pm, EVERY SATURDAY in the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. Shows are each Saturday through the end of April.
The Railroad Museum welcomes the Trackside Quartet featuring the incredible Paul Ierino on keyboard, Jerry Siproth percussion, John Thorene on base and Randy Lee playing everything else. It’s three hours of big band hits, classic jazz favorites and modern fusion. The group’s versatility is sprinkled with interesting artist profiles and there’s always a Train Story from Executive Director Ken Buehler. Because, if you work it hard enough, it all comes back to the railroad.
Jazz at the Depot features a full bar and, to extend the Holiday Season, this weekend is featuring the original Connolly’s Tom and Jerry. There’s also fresh popcorn, snacks, a winter classic soup or chili, gourmet hotdogs with all the fixings and a delicious desert. Jazz at the Depot is sponsored by Kenzen Auto Mall home of Honda, Nissan and Lincoln and Midwest Communications KDAL-AM, WDSM-AM and My 95.
Admission is only $6 and includes the Lake Superior Railroad Museum to explore for free during intermissions. Museum members get in free. Memberships start at only $50 and offer many other benefits, including free, anytime admission, invitation to special events, the JUNCTION Magazine and free train rides on the North Shore Scenic Railroad.
Jazz at the Depot came about several years ago after the Club Saratoga in Canal Park cancelled its long tradition of offering Saturday afternoon jazz ensembles. The result has become a popular part of the Lake Superior Railroad Museum’s winter collection of events including; Hot Stove Nights, Lake Superior Transportation Club meetings all at a destination attraction voted by USA Today as the “BEST Transportation Museum in America.”
